Accommodation

RVS College of Engineering and Technology, one of the premier Institutes of the Eastern Zone of the Country, is a residential Institute. There are five halls of residence, two for girls and three are for boys. These halls of residence together can house about 1150 students. Hostels have its internal administration under the overall supervision of the Wardens Council and Dean (Students Affairs). The hostel is administered by a Warden (Faculty members of the Institute) appointed by the Director and he/she is assisted by an Asst. Wardens (Faculty members of the Institute) in all matters relating to the hostel. Each hostel also has a Hall Council which is an advisory body comprising the Warden (as its Chairman), the Asst. Warden and the elected student secretaries as its members. The Hall Council plans the students’ activities for the year, prepares the budget for sports, recreational and other social activities of the students through the respective student secretaries and is responsible for functioning of hostel mess. The Hostel Office is located within the hostel premises and is open 24 x 7. Attached to each office are Hall Manager and/or Assistant Hall Manager and Hall Attendants who assist the Warden/Assistant Wardens in matters related to the various activities of the hostel. The students can lodge their grievances on various issues related to hostel in the hostel offices at any time.

All these hostels have dining facilities for all residents, four meals in a day (Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks and Dinner). In addition to that Canteens/cafeterias are outside the hostel or at different places within the campus. A number of recreational, sports, literary and social activities take place in the hostel during the academic year. The students celebrate hostel day, Diwali, Holi and other events in the hostel organised by Students Hall Council. Students can relax in the evenings or on holidays or spend their leisure time in the Common Room which is equipped with a T.V, newspapers and magazines or browse books and internet in library or computer rooms. Laundry, water purifiers cum coolers are available in adequate number in each hostel for use by the residents. Common Rooms and lobbies in different floors houses Table Tennis (TT) boards and carom boards as well. All the hostels have a good Gym with all basic amenities and outdoor game facilities (Basket Ball Court, Badminton Court, Volley Ball Court) and Music and Dance rooms. All student rooms are connected with Gigabit Ethernet to individual hostel rooms for academic and research work. ATM facilities are available within the campus. Ambulances are available 24 x 7 for any emergency. Doctors and Pharmacists are available 24 x 7.

All hostels are managed by students through the Students Hall Council. The General Secretary acts as the secretary of the Hostel council, ensures proper maintenance of the hostel premises and coordinates the activities of the other secretaries. The Mess Secretary works in conjunction with the mess staff towards planning of the menu and maintenance of hygiene in the kitchen and the mess hall. Procurement of Sports equipment is the responsibility of the Sports Secretary who also plans the schedules of intra-hostel events and various sport activities during hostel day. The Cultural Activities (Arts and Literary) in the hostel are planned together by the Social, Culture and Literary Secretary. He/she is also responsible for the maintenance of the Common. Health and HygienicSecretary looks after the hygienic and cleaning issues of the hostel. Maintenance Secretary work towards maintenance of appurtenances, facilities of the hostel. In addition to these Secretaries, every hostel has a Mess Committee whose members assist the Mess Secretary in the discharge of his/her duties. The General Body of the hostel formulates the necessary guidelines relating to the running of the mess, conduct of intra-hostel cultural, sports, literary and social competitions and other hostel activities, in conformity with the decisions of the Hostel management and the Wardens Council.

Every student who has been admitted to the institute is required to pay the prescribed hostel seat rent and development charges along with a refundable hostel mess advance in every semester. Allotment of rooms to the residents takes places depending on the availability of vacant room. However, efforts are made to keep the students of same programmes together in a block of the hostel. Each room is provided with a bed, a table, a chair, a bookshelf, and a ceiling fan (withregulator) and minimum lighting requirements. Residents cannot move the furniture or fittings from one room to another. Private cooking in the rooms is prohibited. Smoking, consumption of alcoholic drinks and use of narcotic drugs is strictly prohibited. Guests of the residents may be permitted by Warden to stay in the guest room of hostel on payment of the necessary charges at hostel office. Overnight guests are permitted in a student’s room with the Warden’s prior permission, but no person of the opposite sex, guest or otherwise is permitted to stay overnight.

The hostels are fully secured by 24 x 7 security services. The services of the security personnel are monitored by the Warden, Assistant Wardens and Professor-in-Charge Security. The institute is ragging free institute and same is the hostel. During the first semester of admission all the faculty members of the institute along with Warden and Assistant Wardens on rotation basis do checks regularly to avoid any incident of ragging in the hostel. Apart from that Hostel administration takes help of Counselling Service Team of the institute to mentor and monitor the personality development of students.
