RVS College of Engineering and Technology, Jamshedpur, recently celebrated National Technology Day with great enthusiasm, under the auspices of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). This day, observed nationwide, commemorates India’s achievements in science and technology and aims to inspire the younger generation to pursue innovation for national development. The celebration served as a platform not only to honor technological advancements but also to showcase the creativity and ingenuity of students who are shaping the future.
The highlight of the event was an enlightening lecture delivered by Dr. Vikram Sharma, Head of the Training and Placement Cell. Dr. Sharma spoke at length about the growing significance of technical education in today’s world. He emphasized that in our increasingly digitized and automated society, almost every field—whether healthcare, agriculture, education, or business—relies heavily on technology. He pointed out that developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are not just transforming industries but also redefining the limits of what humans can achieve. By using these technologies, tasks that once seemed impossible or overly complex have now become manageable and efficient.
Dr. Sharma urged students and faculty alike to embrace this era of rapid technological change. He encouraged everyone to make a personal resolution on National Technology Day: to actively learn, adapt, and implement new technologies in their academic and professional lives. His message underscored the idea that staying current with technological trends is not just beneficial, but essential in remaining competitive and effective in any career.
The spirit of innovation was further demonstrated through a project exhibition, where students from various departments showcased their groundbreaking work. From the Computer Science department, students Kunal, Raunak, Pooja, and Barkha presented a machine learning model capable of predicting student employability based on academic and behavioral data. This tool, if implemented effectively, could serve as a crucial resource for placement cells in colleges.
Mechanical Engineering students Prince, Asif, and Arsalan showcased an automated pesticide spraying system, designed to optimize pesticide usage in agriculture. This technology could play a vital role in improving crop health while reducing chemical waste. Another Mechanical Engineering team, comprising Shubham, Hara Prasad, and Aryan, developed a magnetic suspension system aimed at improving vehicle stability and comfort on uneven terrain.
The ECE department impressed with a wireless surveillance robot designed by students Anchal, Anamika, Manya, and Shouryaveer. Equipped with a spy camera and night vision, the robot can be used in security and defense scenarios, highlighting how engineering can contribute to national safety.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Shalini Kumari, who commended the students for their innovative efforts and acknowledged the hard work of the organizing team. She reminded everyone that National Technology Day is not just a celebration, but a reminder of the responsibility to innovate for a better, more technologically empowered India.
