This Centre of Excellence in “VLSI LAB”, at the ECE Department, RVS College of Engineering & Technology, Jamshedpur intends to harness the potential of our human resource and the participating industry, to match global standards and competitiveness in this much diversified and potent arena of development.
Traditionally integrated circuits have been developed using schematics. With shrinking silicon structures and higher integration densities, automated tools for Electronic Design Automation (EDA) have been developed.
We conduct in-depth research in various aspects of Nanoelectronics, Nanodevices, and VLSI Circuits.
This lab has been established to give ideas to the students & researchers of Electronics & Communication Engineering, those who would like to develop themselves in the configuration and simulation of Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits & Systems.
In this laboratory, there is provision to configure and simulate CMOS Circuit & Systems using Mixed signal design methodology.
It is possible to design or layout of various CMOS Circuits at micron, submicron, and deep submicron levels using CADENCE.
Also, it serves as a guide to understanding the complete process to work through in designing Programmable logic devices like that is CPLDs and FPGAs, right from the simulation (zero delays to the implementation aspects).
The Spice Simulation of different types of complex digital & analog circuits and Circuit Layout design of different types of digital & analog circuits using EDA Tools (CADENCE) will be carried out. The complete FPGA design process, including adding timing constraints, pin assignment, synthesis, placement & routing, and bit-stream generation, will be carried out.
This Lab helps to reduce uncertainties by providing knowledge as well as efficient software development and system integration.
EDA software (tools) can be used to solve the problems encountered during synthesizing, analyzing, verifying, and testing a design. We are seeking more powerful algorithms for solving these problems to minimize chip size and power consumption while optimizing chip performance.
At RVSCET, we firmly believe that partnerships between academia and industry are pivotal in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. By fostering strong ties with leading companies, we create a dynamic learning environment that not only equips our students with relevant skills but also provides them with real-world exposure. Through internships, guest lectures, and collaborative research projects, we actively encourage students to engage with industry professionals, allowing them to gain valuable insights, network, and explore diverse career opportunities. This synergy between academia and industry cultivates innovation, enhances the curriculum, and ultimately prepares our students to become well-rounded professionals who are ready to make a meaningful impact in the engineering field.

About MoU
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a formal agreement between two or more parties. Companies and organizations can use MoUs to establish official partnerships.
Purpose of MoU
The MoU is intended to recognize the general basis for a cooperative and collaborative working relationship between the two parties. The purpose of an MoU is to have mutual intentions to jointly work on projects required for industries and research needs, with learned faculty of good industrial experience and promising students, jointly agree to exchange their expertise for mutual benefit and growth, in the areas specified below:
INTERNSHIPS
Students work at a company for at least ten weeks during the summer or at least sixteen weeks during the Summer Vacation. In order for their experience to be considered an internship, they cannot work more than two terms with the same company and still be affiliated with this office. If a student chooses to work more on his or her own, that is acceptable. However, only the first two terms will be noted on their academic transcript.
BENEFITS OF MOUs:
The dim job prospect in the market is pushing many students to accept “non-traditional” career choices as traditional. There exist two separate worlds – academia and industry. Both worlds have very different mindsets and goals. Unless they are brought together, students will have a hard time entering the industry, even if they have straight A’s to show for it. Industry institute collaboration comes into play to bridge the gap between these two worlds.
Why is industry-institute interaction important?
Industry-institute interaction is essential for ensuring that practice meets theory across all functional areas. It goes a long way in enhancing a student’s interpersonal skills and making him/her industry-ready. Such interactions are not always limited to just case discussions or internships. Industry-institute interaction activities like panels and summits may also be organized by institutes to bring together thinkers, experts, and practitioners so that students can massively benefit from intensive mentoring by enthusiastic and highly committed industry professionals.
These interactions help to tackle the doubts and concerns that students usually have about the industry. It gives them in-depth knowledge about what they can expect and how they have to groom themselves to achieve success. With an industry-institute partnership cell, in college, all such issues can be taken care of even before students graduate. This does not leave them stranded after the graduation results are out and they have the confidence that they can take their theoretical (and practical) knowledge ahead to carve out a niche for themselves in their chosen industry.
Students are exposed to how their preferred industry works
Industrial visits, internships, and practical mentoring have their own importance in building the career of a student, especially those pursuing a professional degree. Industry interaction with the institute is regarded as part of the curriculum as it gives students an insight into the regular, internal workings of a company.
It is a known fact that just theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a professional career. Industry institute interactions go beyond academics and it is excellent exposure for students to attain a practical perspective of the world of work. Students get an opportunity to learn practically by applying their theoretical knowledge, through working methods, interactions, and employment practices. It gives them exposure to current working methods as opposed to just classroom theoretical knowledge. Furthermore, students are also able to learn about the work environment of companies and feel more confident when it is time for them to appear for campus interviews or otherwise.
Industry institute interaction is beneficial as a tactile method of teaching
Equipped with only theoretical knowledge, students are not going to be able to achieve much. Impact analysis of industry-institute interaction proves that in today’s competitive work scenario, students with the ability to combine theory with practical and industrial knowledge are the ones that top recruiters are looking for. This further enhances the importance of industry interaction with the institute. Also, during these interactions, students can build relationships with companies and everybody knows how beneficial networking is.
RVS College of Engineering & Technology, Jamshedpur puts all its efforts into bridging the gap between institutes and industries.
To strengthen our programs, curriculum, and delivery strategies, we have constituted an Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) for the Industrial & Production Engineering Department comprising of representatives from various industries thereby generating a mechanism for providing precious and valuable inputs to our department.
IAB is intended to help to initiate close interaction between the institute and the industry and is serving as the platform for showcasing best practices, the latest technological advancements, and their implementation. Through IAB, we expect to improve the quality of technical education adequately and meet the needs of the industry and academia based on the cross-fertilization of ideas for systems improvement.
This Industrial Advisory Board will serve the following objectives:
In a world that measures success on the basis of your pay package, a degree alone won’t suffice. You need to be aware of the industry’s working style, need to be confident and smart and you need to know the tricks of the trade. But how would a student know all this without venturing into the industry? The answer is Industry talks.
That’s the reason more and more colleges in India are inviting industry experts in different fields to interact with the teachers through seminars, conferences, and workshops. For example, when it comes to Mass Communication, a talk by a leading journalist, news anchor or digital media expert can enlighten the students on how real-life media works, how stories are covered, and what kind of considerations make a story newsworthy. Students get to know so much more than Textbooks don’t explain.
Similarly when it comes to engineering courses, inviting a successful IT personality will not only enthuse the students with new ideas but also motivate them to understand what kind of skills are needed in industry and how they need to groom themselves.
Another benefit of these industry talks is that students learn the importance of soft skills like communication, presentation, email etiquette, corporate grooming, and dressing styles. Conversing with successful people is the biggest motivation and students gain in more ways than one when the college organizes such sessions.
Leading colleges of India, especially RVS College of Engineering & Technology, Jamshedpur keeps on organizing such sessions and their students get the chance to interact with the industry regularly which helps them focus on the needs and requirements of the current industry. Every top college in India needs to understand that the learning environment does not include only Wi-Fi or air-conditioned rooms. ICT-equipped lecture spaces, and high-tech Computer Labs; Industry talks, and seminars by experts help the students much more than anything else.
Internships and Industrial Training are known to be some of the most important learning experiences in an undergraduate’s period of study. It is during this internship that students gain first exposure to the industry as their first step towards becoming a competent professional. At RVSCET, as a part of the curriculum, each student has to undertake summer training in companies of repute for 6-8 weeks. Students are required to work on projects given to them either by sponsoring organizations or selected by the students themselves. The project report is an intensive learning exercise for students to apply particular theoretical concepts to practical situations as experienced in an industrial environment.
The students gain valuable work experience through the internships provided, especially if students are looking to work in a specific career field. Since relevant work experience is one of the key qualifications companies look for when comparing candidates for a job or internship, completing several internships during college greatly increases the chances of being selected for a job after graduation. Though the students gain the knowledge required for succeeding in a specific career through the college courses and curriculum, Summer Internships are one of the best ways to develop the required skills necessary to gain the experience for succeeding in the corporate world.
Industrial visit has their place of importance in the career of a student who is pursuing a professional degree course like B.Tech. It constitutes a part of the core course curriculum taught at the college. The objective of an industrial visit is to provide the students with an insight into the internal workings of companies. Today, we all perfectly understand that theoretical knowledge is just not enough for a successful professional career. It is here that by going beyond academics, industrial visit provides students with a much relevant practical perspective of the actual workplace and the larger world of business. All this makes the importance of Industrial visits all too evident, especially for students pursuing a professional Engineering course like B.Tech.
In conclusion, it can be said that an ‘Industrial Visit’ is the most practical approach towards learning through interaction, working practices, etc., and hence gives a perfect reality check to the students.
Students at RVSCET, have focused not only on providing quality education but also on assisting students in obtaining one-on-one interviews with various companies. On November, 10th & 11th, 2022, RVSCET hosted a Mini Job Fair for its students. College career fairs are intended to provide students with the opportunity to learn about different career paths, meet potential employers, and practice professional behavior. When college students graduate, they are usually eager to find work. This is where career fairs come in.
At RVSCET, Jamshedpur Mini Job Fair, more than 10 companies participated including companies like Kreet Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Mjuction, ITO Buz, Codezin & Matrix Media, etc. Around 300 students from RVSCET, Jamshedpur took job interviews for these national and international companies. Mini Job Fair is a platform bringing National and International Companies from all fields such as Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, and students from these fields together. Mini Job Fair is one of the many initiatives taken by RVSCET, Jamshedpur to provide students with the best job opportunities the industry can offer. It is part of our quest to provide 100% placements to our students. Every student from RVSCET, Jamshedpur who participated received offer letters from multiple companies and made their parents and college proud.
R.V. S. College of Engineering and Technology, Jamshedpur always foster the growth and development of society as a whole and therefore it organizes Apprenticeship cum Job Mela in collaboration with the Board of Practical Training, (BOPT) (Eastern Region), Kolkata, MHRD, Govt. of India. This event addresses the employment and training needs of a large number of students from Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal and at the same time proved beneficial in their future endeavours. 50 – 55 companies have been invited which includes IT, Automobile, Electronics & Electrical & Manufacturing sectors.
This event is a highly sought-after programme conducted every year to enhance technical competency to improve the confidence level of qualified youth. The apprenticeship programme provides potential opportunities for budding graduates to hone their demand-driven skills.
The students are being imparted technical and professional knowledge which makes them industry-ready.
Soft Skills or interpersonal skills or people skills is the most discussed and evaluated term in the academic and industry from the last decade. Almost all corporate recruiters demand their prospective employees to be good, rather best in soft skills and communication. But somehow, the educational institutes are not fulfilling the expectations of corporations in a satisfying manner. Most of the time, students are not able to execute ‘theoretically learned skills’ in practical interpersonal situations. This fact has created a huge gap between campus and corporate.
Engineering is a much sought-after field among youngsters. Thousands of engineers graduate every year. Employability is one of the top objectives of higher education. And making students employable is the greatest challenge educational institutes are facing today. As, when students are out of the campus with their degrees, along with their technical excellence, corporate expects them to be mastered soft skills too.
The recent global scenario, interpersonal interactions, and working styles of MNCs are all about a huge network of people, who possess different cultures, attitudes, mindsets, thought processes, and personality types. Engineers are the future employees of various national and multinational business organizations. Hence, their level of skills and competencies regarding dealing with people matters a lot.
Corporate demands and campus efforts related to the soft skills of students should meet each other. Soft skills can be a connection between campus and corporate. Application and development of soft skills in the classroom play a significant role in their development.
“Communication to a relationship is like oxygen to life. Without it….it dies” – Tony Gaskin. To start with the meaning this quote reflects, it can be surely said that communication is the soul of soft skills which are beneficial for any interpersonal relationship. In today’s technologically advanced scenario, communicating properly has become the need of the hour. The very first thing noticed in any context is an ability of an individual to communicate effectively. In recent times, academic excellence is not the only criterion to judge and select the candidates for jobs as it was in practice in the decade of 1980s and 90s.
In recent times, the communication revolution has paved the way for international interactions. And in the same context, communication and business both, act as essentially significant and interdependent terms. Any business is all about dealing with people of diverse attitudes and getting work done from them for profit. This is the reason, business communication skills in interpersonal relations and situations always have a crucial role to play.
Good or effective communication always betters any relationship- personal or professional. Effective communication is nothing but a set of acquired skills. Communication skills are very central to a very broad area of soft skills and interpersonal relationships.
Soft skills- one of the keywords of tech advanced and globally connected 21st century. Soft skills cannot be defined in one specific way but can be understood on the general surface of various thinking and perspectives about them. “Soft skills are personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people.” It is taken as a synonym for ‘People Skills’, ‘Social Skills’, or ‘Interpersonal Skills’. Its role in today’s business context is very important and fundamentally taken into consideration. It has become like a doorway to enter any business organization and a key factor to stick there as today’s business organizations expect a wide range of soft skills from motivation to emotional intelligence in their employees.
Good interpersonal relationships and soft skills go hand in hand. To be successful in any interpersonal relationship- personal or professional, one needs to have an innate or learned ability to listen well and interact. As these two are the most essential characteristics of communication. Good communication skills help to build soft skills and good soft skills help to strengthen interpersonal relationships.
Many corporate recruiters and communication experts are of the view that a very broad area where our engineering graduates fail is ‘soft skills’ or ‘communication. Skills. The inability of students to manifest or execute’ theoretically learned skills in interpersonal situations has created a huge gap between academics and practical industry expectations. One of the most important objectives of higher education is ‘employability’. Making students employable is the biggest challenge educational institutes are facing today.
When the graduates are out of the educational institutes with their degrees, they are expected to be equipped with good ‘people skills or soft skills’ as they are the future employees of various national and multinational business organizations. They are expected by companies to deal with clients across the globe, to work with various people on various projects, handle a team well exhibit their leadership qualities, to always communicate effectively to get the desired results for the growth and development of the business organization. This is the prime reason, their level of skills and competencies, regarding dealing with people interpersonally matters a lot.
Employment tests are the most effective technique used to determine a candidate’s ability to adapt to job requirements. Tests can be used to determine how well a candidate adapts to the situation in the organization. A variety of tests are used to assess a candidate’s analytical and logical capability, reasoning ability, aptitude, psychology, and strength.
An employment test is a type of test that employers use to screen potential employees. These tests vary in what they examine and how they evaluate them. Some tests are written, while others are verbal or physical in nature.
By giving Employability Tests comes Employability Skills in a person. These are the abilities that an individual must possess in order to become a working professional. These abilities are required during the hiring process. Throughout a person’s career, aspiring employers, and colleges search for evidence that they hold all these essential skills. Employability Skills are also important when there is little ‘on-the-job’ experience to demonstrate one’s ability to do the function.
In today’s competitive market, it is quite difficult to succeed, and you must impress the recruiter with skills other than your academic achievements. Something other than a standard skill set is needed to show a recruiter how refined one’s skills are and their willingness to handle the challenges in the corporate world.
